Riyadh Metro overview

Riyadh Metro project represents a public transit system of 6 main lines covering 176 KM and 85 highly equipped stations with cutting-edge technology, which will offer you an outstanding experience during your trip around the city.

These 6 lines cover most of the highly populated districts, government’s facilities, educational and commercials outlets. It is connected with King Khaled International Airport and King Abdullah Financial District, in addition to big universities, the city center and center of Public Transit.

Riyadh Metro has 6 Lines divided into:

  • (Blue Line) Olaya – Batha’a with 38 KM distance.
  • (Red Line) King Abdullah Road with 25.3 KM distance
  • (Orange Line) Al Madina Al Monawara – Prince Saad bin Abdul Rahman Al Awal road, 40.7 KM distance
  • (Yellow line) King Khaled International Airport Road, 29.6 KM distance
  • (Green line) King Abdul Aziz Road 12.9 KM distance
  • (Purple Line) Abdul Rahman bin Aouf road – Shiekh Hassan bin Hussain bin Ali road, 30 KM distance
Designs

Riyadh metro presents you with a unified design for metro cars integrated by the latest technology, giving the metro a unique features distinguished by shape & design. It comes to you with a driverless operating system and Central Control Rooms.

Metro cars have state-of-the-art specifications and are divided internally to serve different categories of passengers (Singles – Families and VIPs), they also have passengers’ information systems.

Lines

Blue Line

Al Olaya main road – Al Bathaa, this route covers 38 KM.

This line includes the following special construction works:

  • Excavation of a deep tunnel (25 – 40 meters) on Al Olaya and King Faisal road extended to 17.3 KM, and this tunnel will be built by using the Tunnel Boring Technique.
  • Implementation of two major stations: King Abdullah Financial District Station and Olaya Station.
  • Implementation of transfer station next to King Abdul Aziz Historical Center (where this line meets line 5 on King Abdul Aziz Road.)
  • Implementation of 3 Park & Ride Car Parks, with 600 park spaces for each.
  • Implementation of two depots for stabling and maintenance, with total area of 227 thousands square meters.

Red line

King Abdullah road, this route covers 25.3 KM.

This line includes the following special construction works:

  • Implementation of passenger stations to serve main areas nearby: King Saud University, Prince Salman Science Oasis, Education zone includes each of: (Ministry of Education, Prince Sultan University, Riyadh Technical college), Riyadh International Convention & Exhibition Center, King Salman Social Center, King Fahad International Stadium
  • Implementation of 2 Park & Ride Car Parks, with 600 parking spaces for each
  • Implementation of two depots for stabling and maintenance near King Fahad Stadium, with total area of 122 thousands square meters

Orange Line

Al Madina Al Monawara – Saad Bin Abdul Rahman Al Awal, 40.7 KM.

This line includes the following special construction works:

  • mplementation of two main stations nearby: Qaser Al Hokom Palace near Mosalla Al Eid and Western Station near vegetable market, in west of Riyadh.
  • Excavation of a deep tunnel (25 – 40 meters) in central of Riyadh districts covering 9.4 KM, by using Tunnel Boring Technique.
  • Implementation of 6 Park & Ride Car Parks , with 600 parking spaces for each.
  • Implementation of two depots for stabling and maintenance: onein the Taweek district, and the other in Al Nassim district with total area of 204 thousands square meters.

Yellow line

King Khaled International Airport Road, 29.5 KM.

This line includes the following special construction works:

  • Transform high voltage towers (132 Kilovolts) to underground lines in Prince Saud bin Mohammad bin Moqren road, extended to 15 KM.
  • Implementation of 3 underground stations to serve passenger lounges in King Khaled International Airport.
  • Implementation of passengers stations to serve the active areas nearby: Imam Mohammad bin Saud Islamic university, Princess Nora bin Abdul Rahman University, and Government Compound
  • Implementation of 3 Park & Ride Car Parks, with 600 parking spaces for each.
  • Implementation of joint stabling and maintenance depot for line 4 and line 6, with total area of 168 thousand square meters

Green Line

King Abdul Aziz road, 12.9 KM.

This line includes the following special construction works:

  • Excavation of deep underground tunnel (25 – 40 meters extended to 12.9 KM, by using the Tunnel Boring Technique.
  • Implementation of underground stations to serve ministries and government facilities extended along both side of King Abdul Aziz road.
  • Implementation of underground stabling and maintenance depot nearthe Ministry of Education, with total area of 50 thousands square meters.

Purple Line

Abdul Rahman bin Aouf Road – Shiekh Hasan bin Hussian bin Ali Road, 29.7 KM.

This line includes the following special construction works:

  • Abdul Rahman bin Aouf Road, Shiekh Hasan bin Hussian bin Ali Road and Abi Ja’afar Al Mansour with total length 17 KM.
  • Implementation of 3 Park & Ride car parks, with 600 parking spaces for each.
Stations

Riyadh Metro stations are places where all Riyadh citizens will gather whilst passing around the city. Thus, the metro stations are equipped with cutting-edge technology which will make using the metro an exciting experience every day. A unified architectural design for all stations will contribute to raise the aesthetic level of the city.

Riyadh metro stations are environment friendly and come with solar cells which will contribute in generating 20% of the required electricity, With Wi-Fi technology you will always stay connected with your Friends and Family. Many stations have commercial outlets and food courts as well as other services.

These stations serve vital and highly populated areas, while there are a few main stations connecting lines together and offering a wide range of services that support using the Public Transit System including car parking spaces, ticket outlets, shops and customer service desks.
Riyadh metro project has 5 interchange stations that allow passengers to swiftly change between metro lines and these 5 connection stations are integrated with the Bus network and they aim to facilitate passengers’ movement into Public Transit Network levels

Iconic Stations are:

The Qasr Al Hokm Metro Station

It is located in the Qasr Al Hokm area, at the intersection between Blue Line and Orange Line, with an area of 19.600 square meter, near the Eid mosque at the center of Riyadh city. The design of this station was awarded to Snohetta from Norway.

King Abdullah Financial District Station

This station is located at the eastern side of KAFD and west of King Fahad Road. In coordination with the Public Pension Agency, an agreement has been reached to allocate the land area of 8.150 square meter. KAFD station is a hub for three lines: Blue line, Yellow line and Purple line. This station will be connected with 3.6km Driverless monorail which will provide local transportation within the Financial District. The contract of this station was awarded to Zaha Hadid Architects from United Kingdom.

Western Station

It is located on an area of 12.500 square meter, near the central vegetable market in Al Sweedi district. This station will be a hub for the Orange line with a dedicated bus line on Shiekh Mohammad bin Abdul Latif Street. This station divided into two stations, Metro and Bus Station. Additionally there is a Park & Ride facility with a capacity of 1000 cars, the contract of this stations was awarded to Omrania & Associates

Park & Ride

Riyadh Metro is looking forward to delivering the best service ever!

Now it is easy to move from your own car to Riyadh metro by parking it at one of the many park and ride sites. Use the metro and return to your cars again later. These parking spaces will give much more variety to your daily life. You will be able to use various public transit services on a daily basis.

Crossing the downtown became easier than before by riding Riyadh metro and total of 25 car parks with 400 -600 cars capacity for each. Geographically distributed to cover most of Riyadh areas.

Housing and Maintenance Centers (Depots)

To secure best performance, we offered the best maintenance ever!

Riyadh Metro Project has 7 housing and maintenance centers, they contain workshops, depots to do the periodical maintenance works, office accommodation employees and workers who are responsible to carry out maintenance and operation of the metro fleets and Control Centers.

Housing and maintenance centers allow periodical and preventive maintenance to avoid any future failures that might affect metro performance during the coming years.
